Reducing the humidity inside of the home reduces the possibility that mold will be a problem and it also helps to reduce the other allergens, helping your home to be cleaner.
Less Skin Irritation - Did you realize that moisture plays a large part in skin problems that you may experience? During certain times of the year, high levels of moisture can cause a problem with irritation, particularly in and around the nasal passages. Removing the humidity from the air using a dehumidifier can help to reduce this issue.
Reduce Condensation - The Windows in the home also need to be considered, because of the possibility for condensation. Have you ever noticed that, during certain times of the year, the difference between the outside air and the inside air makes condensation a real issue on the windows and window frames? The Benefits of Using Humidifiers
We understand that you are interested in being comfortable in your home. We are not only a Corinth air conditioning service; we provide other services that can look after the indoor air quality and your comfort in a variety of ways. One of the options that you may want to consider is the use of humidifiers in the home. This can either be done from room to room, or it is possible to install a larger unit that will help to keep the moisture at a proper level inside of your home. This is of particular benefit to individuals who have a house that tends to be dry; a problem that may exist both in the winter months as well is in the summer months.
You might be surprised to learn that humidifiers not only help you to be more comfortable, they provide many other benefits to those who use them. For example, having additional humidity inside of the home can help you to maintain an overall better health level. After all, if you are breathing dry air constantly, it can breed viruses and bacteria that can lead to you getting sick. It is also beneficial for dry skin and if you suffer from any skin issues, it may help to relieve some of the symptoms that you are experiencing.
The Additional Benefits of Humidifiers
Static Electricity - Have you ever gotten shocked when you reached for a doorknob or when you touch somebody else inside of the home? This is an issue with static electricity and is often associated with dry air inside of the home. Raising the humidity level helps to reduce static electricity.
Save Money - During the winter months, dry air inside of the home can make it feel as if it is colder than what it really is. When you raise the humidity level inside of the home, it helps you to save money because you will be running the heat less frequently.
Home Decor - Low levels of humidity can cause issues in the home, such as wood flooring drying out, wallpaper peeling and even wood furniture splitting or cracking. Adding humidity to the air, particularly during the winter months can help to reduce this possibility.
Less Snoring - Did you realize that humidifiers can actually help with snoring? That is because the moisture that is added to the air also affects the respiratory system. It may not completely remove storing as an issue, but it can help to reduce its intensity.
These and other benefits of using humidifiers can be discussed when you contact Select Air. We want you to be comfortable in your home and we can provide the services that are necessary to make sure that it is a reality for you and your family.

A Brief Overview of the SEER Rating
You will likely hear a lot of different numbers when you are having an air conditioning or heating system installed. In some cases, it can get confusing as to which is going to be the right choice for you and your family. Of course, when you use Select Air as your Grapevine air-conditioning repair or installation service, there is no need for you to be concerned over these trivial matters. After all, we are there to assist you through the process and to make sure that you understand everything that is involved so that you can make the proper decision. We will even help you to design the proper AC service for your home, so that you will be comfortable, no matter how hot it gets outside.
One of the determining factors for a heating or air-conditioning system is the SEER rating. This stands for the seasonal energy efficiency rating and it is a number which helps you to determine the efficiency with which your HVAC equipment is operating. It is based on the amount of energy that is being consumed by the unit. When the SEER rating is at a higher number, it is due to the fact that it is using less energy because it is more efficient. That equates to lower energy bills for you and it also has less of an environmental impact, which is important to all of us.
Another benefit to having a high SEER rating on your air conditioner or heating unit is the fact that you may be compensated by the utility company. This is not always possible, as it depends upon the area. When you call Select Air, you can be sure that we will discuss the possibility with you, according to your specific needs.
A look beyond the SEER rating
Although most homeowners are going to have somewhat of a concern over this rating and the efficiency of their air-conditioning unit, you would never want to compromise your comfort in order to save a few dollars. That is why we make sure that we give you the options that are available so that you have a variety of choices, according to your needs. Not only will we consider your budget, we will also consider the size of your home and the different air-conditioning options that may be best for you.
If you have any additional questions about this or other ways of rating your air conditioning or heating unit, you can contact Select Air. One of our friendly professionals would be happy to assist you and in making sure that you are comfortable with your choice of HVAC equipment.

R-22 phase out - how does it affect you?
R-22 is a type of refrigerant that has been used in air-conditioning units for many years. It has been discovered, however, that it was detrimental to the environment so there has been a phase-out of this product that has been ongoing for a number of years. In 2010, new units that contained R-22 were banned from being sold in the United States. The recycling of this compound from older units was also something that was promoted by the EPA as well. Eventually, this type of refrigerant is going to be completely phased out and at that time, it will not be possible for you to have the gas replaced in an air-conditioning unit which uses this refrigerant.
First of all, it's a good idea for you to understand what is legal and illegal about the use of R-22 refrigerant. It is legal for this product to be produced for use in equipment that exists and was made before 2010. There is also a certain amount of R-22 that is able to be imported and produced by companies, although those allowances may run out by the year 2020. As far as what is illegal concerning R-22, it is illegal to intentionally vent this gas into the atmosphere. Of course, that has always been a bad idea and any respectable Argyle air conditioning company would certainly never vent this gas intentionally. It is also necessary to repair or replace larger systems that have leak rates above a predefined limit. In addition, it is not legal to buy or use R-22, unless you are certified by the EPA.
Select Air can help you with your air-conditioning unit
When you call Select Air, you are using a professional service that understands the ins and outs of the R-22 phase out and how it is going to affect, not only you as a consumer but also us as a business. That is why we make sure that our customers are comfortable with what is taking place on their property, regardless of whether it is a new unit being installed or if it is an old air conditioner that is being repaired.
If you would like more information about the R-22 phase out and how it affects you as a customer, you can contact Select Air. Not only would we be happy to discuss this situation with you, we can also offer you options that will help to make you yet another one of our happy customers.

The benefits of installing a whole house humidifier
There are numerous things that you can do to increase your comfort within the home. Some of those items are often overlooked by many homeowners but once they are installed, they end up wondering how they could have ever lived without it in the first place. That is the case when you install all house humidifiers, an option that you should consider when you live in areas where you may experience dry conditions within the home for a few months or longer throughout the year. What are the benefits of installing whole house humidifiers and how can you choose one that is going to be right for you?
First of all, it's important for you to understand that the newer humidifiers that work throughout the whole house are going to work similarly to the old-fashioned humidifiers that were often used in times past. To simplify things, they help to moisturize the air in the home, which allows you to breathe easier because dry air is difficult to breathe. The main benefit that you get from installing the whole house humidifier is the fact that it can increase the humidity throughout the home in every room, rather than you having to carry the humidifier from one room to another while you are living in the home.
The health benefits of whole house humidifiers
You will normally find it to be easier to breathe and you will actually find that your respiratory health is improving with a humidifier is used. As was stated earlier, dry air can be very difficult to breathe, especially when your respiratory system is already compromised. Having adequate moisture within the air can help to keep your nasal passages and lungs moist, reducing the breathing problems that you have and even limiting the possibility of getting sick.
Of course, there are many different products available which can add moisture to the home and you should look at those products carefully before making your choice. Honeywell makes some excellent products, including a whole house bypass humidifier and evaporative humidifier systems which will help you to be more comfortable in your home as you breathe easily.

The damage that hailstorms can cause to outdoor condensing units
There are many different types of storms that can cause damage to the home. These include windstorms and thunderstorms. One of the more damaging types of storms that can wreak havoc on the home, however, is a hailstorm. In some cases, this is not only going to cause visible damage to the home, including the outdoor condensing unit, it can also cause problems that are not immediately recognizable. Here are some of the issues that can occur with your outdoor condensing unit when a hailstorm has occurred.
It is true that much of the damage that occurs to the condensing unit is going to be visible. By doing a visible inspection, you will see that the damage is obvious and any repairs are going to be obvious as well. This is especially true with the coils that are on many outdoor condensing units. They may become damaged and when that occurs, your unit is not going to be operating efficiently and may even lose some of its lifespan. It is true that the coils, in some cases, are going to be able to be combed out but that is not always the case. In certain hailstorms and with certain HVAC units, you may end up having to replace the entire unit because the damage is extensive. It is interesting to note, that may be covered under storm damages with your insurance company if it is files properly.
When a hailstorm occurs -call an HVAC technician
If you have a hailstorm in your area, do not wait to call a technician to inspect your HVAC system. You could be running the system and although it may be heating or cooling your home at this time, damage inside of the unit may end up taking its toll. This can be quite expensive but on the other hand, having some minor repairs done that occurred as a result of the hailstorm is going to end up being less expensive. It is always a good idea for you to have the system checked immediately after the hailstorm occurs. Not only can it help to rule out any extensive problems that may exist, it can help to keep your AC up and running when the temperature gets hot.

Is it good to control a thermostat from your smartphone?
We live in a day where electronics are the norm and there are many different things that can benefit you in this electronic age. One of the things that you may want to consider is the possibility of controlling your home thermostat by using your smartphone. There are many benefits when you do so that should be considered. It is not only as a convenience, it can actually help you to save money and it makes your home more environmentally friendly. Here are some of the ways that you can use your smartphone to control a thermostat to your benefit.
When you buy a wireless thermostat that is programmable and has access from your smartphone, you can access it from anywhere in the world. Of course, you are going to have to have an Internet connection at your home but most of us have an Internet line that is dedicated. When you have access to your thermostat from your smart phone, it gives you the ability to change the temperature in the home when you're not there. In that way, you can keep the home at a warmer temperature when you are not home but as you are thinking about returning, you can login and change the temperature to a more comfortable setting. In that way, the house is going to be more comfortable when you return.
Additional benefits of smartphone thermostats
There may be other benefits that are available when you choose the right thermostat that has smartphone controls. Not only are you going to be able to control it from anywhere, it also gives you detailed information about the history of your energy usage. In many cases, you can schedule a time that the temperature will change automatically while you are going to be away from home, such as when you are working. These are some of the benefits that are available.
You will also likely appreciate the fact that many of the newer thermostats are sleek and designed well. Instead of just having a regular box on the wall that is rather nondescript, you have something that is actually going to add to the room where it resides.

You want to ensure that you can trust individuals who are doing work on your home. This is also true of those who are going to be working on your HVAC system. After all, a corrupt HVAC contractor can end up costing you a lot of money in a variety of ways, from unnecessary equipment replacement to difficulties that would cause your system to break down prematurely. Here are some ways for you to recognize that you are dealing with a corrupt HVAC company so that you can avoid their services. One of the most important things for you to consider is the insurance that is carried by the HVAC company. This is something that you should not only ask when deciding which contractor to use, you should also verify the insurance. Along with checking the insurance, you should also check the license status of the contractor himself. There are agencies available which can assist you in doing so and if you should happen to discover that your HVAC contractor is lying to you, make sure that you report them to the proper authorities.
Additional ways to determine if you are dealing with a corrupt HVAC contractor.
Something else that you should consider is the service call that is being done by the HVAC contractor. If they are giving you a cheap service call, it may actually end up costing you in the long run. Experienced HVAC contractors can be expensive and that expense is going to be paid by you, the consumer. If you pay less now, you may end up paying more later. Along the same lines, watch out for contractors that offer to give you free service and then end up charging you for expensive repairs. In addition, be leery of contractors that guarantee that they will be able to do the work within a certain amount time or it is free. Remember, you are dealing with an HVAC unit, not with pizza delivery. There is nothing wrong with you checking the credentials of your HVAC company to determine if they are trustworthy. When you avoid corrupt HVAC companies, you will avoid all of the headaches that can go along with them.
by Bill Grote
You spent a lot for your HVAC system and there's no doubt that you want to keep it running as long as possible. You also want to ensure that it is going to effectively cool and heat your home throughout the year. That is why it is important for you to consider the HVAC maintenance that takes place on your unit and should consistently take place throughout the year as well. In most cases, a preseason checkup that is going to be done will be taken care of by contractor annually. It is important for you to have contractor on call, as they tend to be rather busy when the spring and fall time rolls around. Here are some of the things that will be considered with the HVAC maintenance checkup. One thing that is going to be done is that all of the electrical connections are going to be tightened properly. Voltage is going to be measured on motors within the HVAC system to determine if there is any problem. Any faulty electrical connections are going to be corrected. The condensate drain is going to be inspected to determine if it is clogged. A plugged condensate drain can cause water to flow into the house and also can affect the comfort levels of the air inside of the home. Something else that is going to be done is the filter is going to be changed and the system is going to be cleaned. This is something that should be done on a routine basis to ensure that the entire HVAC system is operating properly. This would include cleaning the condensate or air-conditioning coils and the evaporator. The filter should be inspected and changed if necessary on a monthly basis, as a dirty filter can cause damage to the equipment and increases your energy expenses.
Additional ways that the HVAC will be maintained.
During the HVAC maintenance process, the thermostat settings are going to be checked and any moving parts in the system are going to be lubricated. The contractor is going to have a look at the controls that ensure the system is operating safely and effectively. There also going to be checks performed to determine if oil or gas connections are functioning properly and if the refrigerant level is at acceptable levels in the air-conditioning system.
